Homework: 1 page in WN

Cheerful composers! Students! Writers! Remember, whenever you are going to write anything, in order to be successful in your communication, you must ask yourself two questions:

       1. What is my purpose? What message am I trying to communicate? Why am I writing this?

       2. Who is my audience? What do they know and not know about my subject?

Keep up your hard work students. You are improving as writers and readers everyday.

"Out Here on my Own"

Welcome, students, to our first literature unit! During the course of the next few weeks, we will be reading literature and poetry that takes a look at facing challenges alone. The theme, as described by the textbook, is "Out Here on my own". Here is how the textbook describes this theme:
  • Confronting a crisis alone can be a frightening experience for anyone; but danger may also bring out qualities such as courage, determination, and self-sacrifice--in a young girl, in a small boy, or even a fledgling mongoose.
On Monday, the 29th, we will begin reading the story "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" by Rudyard Kipling. Buckle up, students, we are in for an interesting exploration of what it means to go-it alone!

First Day

Thank you seventh graders for a fabulous first day. As some of you were aware, and for those of you who are not, today was my first "first day" as the only teacher (I had one previous first day as a student teacher, but that is much different). Just to review, the procedure for coming to English class will be the exact same every day.
  1. Enter class quietly
  2. Sit down and immediately begin filling out planner
  3. Begin entry task
Most all of you came right into class, before the bell, and had no trouble following the directions posted on the board. Keep it up!

Thursday August 11th

Objective:
Introduce policies and procedures

Homework:
Have syllabus signed by parent/guardian. Also, give parent/guardian letter from Mr. O'Mera

Inaugural Post

Welcome 7th graders,

We are about to embark on journey. During this journey, we are going to read, write, and have a great time doing it. Please get into the habit of checking this blog regularly. I will use it to post important information, discussion items, and any other breaking news that pertains to our class. Again, welcome to the blog, welcome to the Academy of Tucson, and welcome to English. May the journey begin.
